Job title: Senior Ecologist and Ecology Team Leader

Location: Kent

Rate: £25,000 - £35,000 DOE + benefits

Job Summary:

 

We are working with a multidisciplinary practice of landscape architects, ecologists and arboriculturalist to support the growth of their Kent based Ecology team. Our client are seeking a Senior Ecologist and an Ecology Team Leader to join their friendly and close-knit team of environmental professionals.

Both the Senior Ecologist and Ecology Team leader will have the opportunity to provide a diverse range of ecological services, on projects that range from sensitive historical sites to large scale multi-phased mixed development projects and will often collaborate with the two other specialist teams (landscape and arboriculture) to deliver client requirements.


Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

The Senior Ecologist will;

  • Coordinate and undertake scoping and species-specific ecology surveys
  • Co-ordinate and lead Phase 1 habitat, protected species surveys and design mitigation strategies whilst also making licence applications as required
  • Project manage, including providing input to fee proposals and invoicing for project work
  • Support the Team Leader and attend client and design meetings as required.

 

 In addition, the Ecology Team leader will;

  • Manage the programming and resourcing of the ecology team’s workload
  • Report to the Directors and attend monthly business management meetings
  • Manage fee proposals and invoicing
  • Liaise with the landscape and arboricultural teams
  • Take the ecology lead role at client and design team meetings
  • Co-ordinate and lead Phase 1 habitat and protected species surveys
  • Design and implement mitigation strategies
  • Undertake project management, report writing and delivery
  • Undertake quality control / check procedures through our QA procedure
  • Make licence applications as required.

 

Qualifications / Experience:

The Senior Ecologist will have;

  • Honours degree in ecology or closely related field
  • Full CIEEM membership
  • At least one Natural England protected species class licence
  • Experience in Ecological Impact Assessments and Habitat Regulations Assessments
  • Experience in preparing and implementing EPS Mitigation licences
  • Experience in project management from inception to completion
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including client and stakeholder liaison
  • Previous experience in ecological consultancy or local government           
  • Thorough knowledge of wildlife legislation and planning policy
  • Full driving licence and access to a car.

 

In addition, the Team Leader will have proven management abilities and at least 4 years’ experience in ecological consultancy.  This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced ecologist to join a friendly and close-knit team in a period of growth.
