Description

This is an opportunity to work in a high performing Ministry, providing the strong evidence base critical for delivering robust environmental policy advice and contributing to the transparency of international emissions reporting under the Paris Agreement. The Climate Change Analysis team is an integral part of the Climate Change Directorate, connecting science, statistics, research and evaluation with the policy challenges in climate change.  We ensure that sound science and evidence underpin decision-making and that New Zealand meets its greenhouse gas reporting obligations. Key to this is clear communication of technical information.

We are seeking an experienced senior analyst/senior policy analyst who can bring an analytical perspective to bear on environmental information.  You will be part of the team responsible for the monitoring and reporting of New Zealand's greenhouse gas emissions, providing an evidence base to support our position in international negotiations on climate change, and informing domestic policy settings on a range of emerging natural resource issues. You will also be involved in setting the direction for transparent international reporting on climate change with possible participation in multilateral negotiations.

This is a permanent position in a high-performing team. As the ideal candidate you will have:

  • excellent oral and written communication skills
  • strong stakeholder engagement skills
  • an ability to adapt to changing priorities
  • be highly organised and able to develop, implement robust systems and processes.

You will also have at least one of the following:

  • a high degree of comfort working with quantitative data and the science underpinning emissions estimates
  • experience in communicating and translating science and in working across government.
  • experience in multilateral environment agreements or international negotiations would be an advantage for the role

Ideally you will have a post-graduate degree in a relevant discipline and at least five years relevant experience.  While this does not need to be in science or working in government previous experience in these areas would be an advantage.
