Job title: Seasonal Ecology Consultant 

Reference: 11530

Location: Cambridge

Rate: £17,000- £19,000 DOE

Term: FTC until Sept 2013


Job Summary:

To work flexibly on a wide variety of environmental consultancy contracts to deliver ecological consultancy and mitigation works in a fast moving, client focused commercial environment

Key responsibilities:

  • Carry out Phase 1 habitat surveys and protected species surveys including field work and report writing. It will be necessary to work flexibly with regard to type of work, timing (some night time/weekend working may be required) and location
  • Carry out desk studies, consultations, research, data management and analysis and report writing.
  • Liaison and attending meetings with clients and statutory bodies
  • Input into ecological sections of Environmental Impact Assessments
  • TheMiltonandBristolposts will require working on railway tracksides 
  • Deliver work as efficiently as possible, meet agreed timescales/quality standards and deliver reports on time.

Education/qualifications/experience/skills

Essential

  • A degree or equivalent qualification or experience in a relevant environmental subject
  • Sound knowledge of ecological principles, wildlife conservation and practical habitat management
  • Good understanding of key ecological survey methodologies for a wide range of fauna and flora with emphasis on protected species and habitats
    • Good organisational and team working skills, including the ability to prioritise and complete tasks in a timely manner
    • Numerate with good attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication (including report writing) and IT skills
  • Willingness to work flexibly and on occasions alone and on challenging sites e.g. railways and wayleaves
  • A full driving licence

Desirable

  • Membership of IEEM or another relevant professional body
  • Experience of working as a practising field ecologist, preferably in a commercial environment
  • An understanding of ecological legislation and policy relating toUKfauna and flora
    • Possession of protected species licences for at least one relevant EPS or close to achieving this.
