Location: Washington, D.C.
Department: Science

 

Oceana seeks an intern to assist the Science Division staff on researching seafood issues, including systematics, sustainability, supply chain, and seafood safety. The intern will be expected to  review primary and secondary literature, assist with collecting, organizing and analyzing data, and writing reports.

Other duties could include conducting phone interviews, some travel for research, and assisting other Oceana staff as needed. The intern would have opportunities to interact with other ocean advocates and learn conservation principles.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in biology or marine science
  • Strong molecular biology or systematics background preferred
  • Excellent research, writing, organization and communication skills
  • Skill in data analysis and statistics in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to work effectively in a team effort
  • Energy, enthusiasm, and a strong desire to learn
  • Ability to work independently on discrete projects

Interns should be available to work full- or part- time for 3-6 months. Interns receive a stipend and/or academic credit for their internship.
