Sales and Marketing Advisor

The Sam Veasna Center (SVC) is a non-profit social enterprise that operates ecotourism services to the most important sites for wildlife conservation in Cambodia. SVC’s goal is to conserve wildlife by providing rural communities an opportunity to benefit financially from protecting wildlife species. Conservation contributions made by tourists are used for development projects within the village, and therefore benefit the whole community. The amount contributed by each visitor is based on sightings of the flagship species during their stay, and therefore links the income generated by tourism to the conservation of endangered species.

SVC has successfully developed a reputation as Cambodia’s leading experts in bird-watching tourism, facilitating visits for more than 800 tourists per year to these ecotourism sites. These visits generate significant local revenue that supports conservation and local development. A key opportunity exists for SVC to increase the size of the business and therefore its impact: more than 4 million tourists now visit Siem Reap each year, yet SVC captures

This is an extremely exciting opportunity to assist SVC to develop and expand their products to reach the wider nature-based tourism market. Key attractions and products to be marketed include wildlife watching, forest trekking, and visits to remote landscapes, rural villages, and ancient temples.

SVC is looking for a Sales and Marketing Advisor to assist with various tasks including the recruitment, development, and capacity-building of a Cambodian Sales and Marketing Manager, with whom the recently designed sales and marketing strategy developed for SVC can be implemented. Other tasks include developing promotion materials, online marketing, establishing and managing customer relations and partnerships, and further developing SVC’s marketing strategy.

The successful candidate will be based in the Siem Reap town, located close to the ancient Angkor Wat Temple Complex in Cambodia, with some travel to the ecotourism sites across the country.

Requirements/qualifications:

• Experience and knowledge in business development, project management, marketing, and sales is essential
• Tertiary qualifications in business; organisational development/management; or other relevant fields. Masters level qualifications will be looked upon favourably
• Experience/knowledge of or interest in adopting participatory approaches to organisational development desired
• Prior experience in the development of social enterprises desirable
• Flexibility and adaptability
• Resilience and ability to manage stress
• Knowledge of and ability to apply marketing strategies to drive greater customer demand
• Outstanding communication and organisational skills
• Strong capacity to mentor and train staff
• Self-awareness and cross-cultural sensitivity
• Commitment to sharing knowledge and skills
• Willingness to learn basics of Khmer
• Interest in wildlife, conservation, sustainable development, and tourism

Schedule and Compensation: The duration and salary for this contract will be based on the experience and qualifications of the candidate. We expect the candidate to start the position in late 2015/early 2016.
