Volunteer Learning Assistant Internship - Rainham Marshes nature reserve

Why we want you

Looking to get some quality experience with Europe's largest conservation charity, engaging with young people and delivering environmental education?

Fancy spending 6 months volunteering in a fantastic place, with fantastic people - seeing things you'd never normally see?

We have a volunteer internship from March - September 2016. We are looking for a volunteer to deliver clearly defined sessions to groups of up to 30 young people of all ages and abilities throughout our summer season. You would mainly be delivering to school groups but will also have opportunities to gain experience working with families and adults.

What’s in it for you?

You will be part of a busy team who inspire others about wildlife and help them to learn about the world around them. Good communication skills and enthusiasm are essential. You will need some experience of working with children and an ability to work outside and be on the go all day. Being willing to learn new skills with a resourceful and flexible approach will make you a valuable member of the team.

You will get:
- Experience and training
- Knowledge that the role you will be carrying out will be playing a vital part in inspiring young people about the natural world
- Development of your own confidence in working with young people
- Experience of working with young people for a well-known environmental charity.
- Relevant training for the role e.g. CSW, risk assessments, H & S.
- You will be a valuable member of a professional team.
- Reference available.

You will need:
- A keen interest in wildlife, conservation and the environment
- An enthusiasm for outdoor education and a willingness to learn new skills
- A resourceful and flexible approach to be able to cope with a wide variety of ages and abilities of children

Notes

All the training necessary and background information will be provided and since you'll be giving up your time, it's only fair that we offer to re-imburse your travel expenses (up to 25 miles).

Our internships are designed to offer work experience. However, doing an internship does not, unfortunately, guarantee future employment with the RSPB. Interns are welcome to apply for our paid vacancies, but for obvious reasons, an intern would need to have proven themselves in their current role before their volunteering experience will assist an application for a paid post.

In line with our Safeguarding policy, all applicants are subject to an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (England and Wales), Access NI in Northern Ireland, or a PVG Scheme registration check from Volunteer Scotland in Scotland.
Contact the Disclosure and Barring Service on 0870 9090811 for more information.
Contact Volunteer Scotland on 01786 849777 for more information.
Contact Access NI on 0300 200 7888 for more information.

References will also be taken up.
