Position Summary

Trout Unlimited (TU) seeks a project manager to plan and implement on-the-ground projects that preserve and improve trout habitat in the Rio Grande River basin of southern Colorado. Projects may include removal of fish barriers, in stream and riparian habitat restoration, irrigation infrastructure upgrades, stream flow improvements, or other measures that protect or restore fish habitat. All projects will be cooperative and undertaken with support from the community.

Duties and Responsibilities

The project manager will work closely with water users, private landowners, and agency personnel. Primary responsibilities are to:

• Develop relationships with water users, agricultural producers, and agency staff;
• Generate community support for our efforts;
• Plan and oversee projects;
• Raise funds as necessary to design and construct projects;
• Manage grant application and reporting requirements;
• Monitor project results, including fish usage of improved habitat.

Qualifications

• A degree in biology, ecology, hydrology, engineering, or a related field;
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
• Knowledge of irrigation systems and fish biology/ecology;
• Experience working with landowners and community members;
• Ability to manage project budgets;
• Ties to the Rio Grande River basin;
• Above all, practical skills and a proven track record in accomplishing goals.

The project manager will be located in the Rio Grande River basin. This is a two-year position with possibility for extension. This is not an all-inclusive list of duties and responsibilities.
