The Institute operates from facilities in Townsville Queensland, Darwin Northern Territory and Perth Western Australia.

About this Opportunity

You will have an interest in participating in extensive field based activities to conduct surveys on tropical marine fauna and be experienced in conducting analyses of post trip results, both laboratory and desktop based.

This position provides the opportunity to develop skills in the planning and preparation of field based work to collect and analyse benthic biodiversity data. You will be mentored by experienced field technicians and research scientists will have access to modern remote sampling methodologies to conduct all field activities, including towed video, drop cameras, multi-beam sonars and baited remote underwater vehicles.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a world leading organisation with attractive working conditions including a 9-day fortnight, generous leave entitlements, transportation to site, a salary range of $62,277 - $70,173 and 15.4% superannuation. This role is being offered for a 2 year term and will be based in Townsville, Queensland.

About You

  • You will have the willingness to work at sea for extended periods and be able to demonstrate:
  • A working knowledge of coral reef ecosystems;
  • Experience conducting surveys of tropical fish and sharks using a variety of techniques;
  • Experience using remote sampling equipment;
  • Strong data analysis skills, including the ability to use and maintain databases; and
  • Appropriate diving qualifications.
