Research Scientist – Benthic (Coral Reef) Ecology

The Institute operates from facilities in Townsville Queensland, Darwin Northern Territory and Perth Western Australia.

About this Opportunity

As an early to mid-career coral reef ecologist, you will contribute to a team that develops and implements integrated coral reef monitoring, assessment and reporting.

You will apply your expertise in coral ecology and taxonomy, your quantitative skills and your general understanding of environmental issues facing tropical marine ecosystems, especially coral reefs, to advance AIMS’ world-leading coral reef research and monitoring programs.

With an initial focus on the Great Barrier Reef, this position offers opportunities for autonomy and collaboration to build a research portfolio that complements and advances the interpretation of long-term coral reef monitoring information, with the opportunity to produce high impact publications.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a world leading organisation with attractive working conditions including a 9-day fortnight, generous leave entitlements, transportation to site, a salary range of $99,609 - $129,662 and 15.4% superannuation. This role is being offered for a minimum 5 year term and will be based in Townsville, Queensland.

About You

You will have advanced skills and experience in the identification of coral reef benthos and high level quantitative skills, especially for analyses of time series, data integration and sampling design, and be able to demonstrate:

• PhD and postdoctoral (or equivalent) experience relevant to coral ecology;
• High impact publications;
• Experience in innovative environmental research; and
• Experience successfully obtaining research sponsorships.
