Description

To work on technical development and user support of the Earth System Model, EC-Earth.

SMHI is an active member of the European collaboration, EC-Earth, which is developing and applying the ECMWF coupled seasonal prediction system for decadal timescale climate prediction and climate change projections. EC-Earth version 2 is now being run to provide simulations to the CMIP5 international project and a new version 3 of the model has recently been developed at SMHI and is ready for release to the EC-Earth community.

The position will entail contributing towards continued development of EC-Earth within the Rossby Centre development team, as well as supporting the use and extension of the present system at other Swedish institutes within the EC-Earth collaboration.

The work will take place at the Rossby Centre in the Research Department of SMHI and requires a readiness to engage in the full range of technical activities pertinent to the development and use of a complex Earth System Model. These include; coupling of new components into the EC-Earth system, code optimization, developing new model configurations and the training and support of new model users, e.g. from Swedish universities.
