To work on the NERC funded project 'The centennial-scale response of the Indian monsoon to Holocene climate change: a high-resolution lake sediment isotope record from Peiku Co, Tibet'.

In particular you will conduct sedimentological analysis, identify and isolate ostracod shells, and generate stable isotope and trace element data using isotope ratio mass spectrometry and ICP-OES. The overarching aim of this project is to investigate Indian summer monsoon variability over the past 15,000 years through a high-resolution palaeoclimatic reconstruction of effective moisture. This palaeoclimatic record will be used to evaluate changes in the behaviour of the Indian summer monsoon and to investigate the relative importance of different forcing factors and wider climatic teleconnections. You will be based in the Department of Geographical and Earth Sciences and work closely with colleagues from the NERC Isotope Geosciences Laboratory and the Large Lakes Observatory, University of Minnesota-Duluth.

This post has funding for 12 months.
