EMBARQ is seeking a highly motivated and self-driven professional who will support research activities in transport, urban and regional planning, safety, health, and environment across the EMBARQ Network. Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing research support in sustainable transportation, road safety and health, and urban and regional planning. Other activities include advancing specific research projects, researching and documenting emerging trends and best practices in urban transportation, road safety, health, city planning and environmental sustainability; and researching and documenting specific impacts of sustainable transport projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Interact with EMBARQ Network staff and partner institutions for data and information acquisition, analysis, reporting and review.
  • Contribute to project development across the EMBARQ Network. Projects include the implementation or improvement of transit systems, active transport initiatives, transit oriented urban development, clean fuels/clean vehicles, and policy reform initiatives.
  • Produce materials and contributions for documents, papers, workshops, conferences, and large publications.
  • Work on related issues and tasks according to the requirements of the program. Activities will be defined on a project-by-project basis across the EMBARQ Network, may include travel and will require interaction with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate studies in transport planning, traffic engineering or city and regional planning.
  • At least 2 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated research experience in road safety, traffic engineering, transport planning or city and regional planning. Experience with road safety audits is a plus.
  • Proven ability to work in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams.
  • Self-motivation and enthusiasm to work on sustainability issues in developing countries.
  • Excellent English. Knowledge of Spanish and/or Portuguese is preferable.
  • Advanced knowledge of statistics and familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Availability and willingness to travel.
