ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Public Policy Research Intern provides administrative, research and some general office support to the Director of Government Relations and the government relations team. This may include research on public policy, community planning, administrative rule-making, zoning and other issues related to the work of The Nature Conservancy, planning special events and handling general correspondence. This is a short-term, unpaid internship position that is available each summer working 10-20 per week. Start date: 06/15/2009
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of graduate level study in law, natural resources or public policy. • Experience working in MS Office, Word and Excel and ability to do Internet research. • Experience providing administrative support.
ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: • Ability to organize time, manage diverse activities, pay attention to details and meet deadlines. • May require database management skills with ability to produce reports. Ability to use advanced computer functions including navigating the Internet.
COMPLEXITY/PROBLEM SOLVING: • Work on multiple projects with several variables, meet deadlines, and manage a timeline. • Resolve routine problems independently; consult with supervisor to develop plans for resolution of unusual or complex problems.
DISCRETION/LATITUDE/DECISION-MAKING: • Perform duties under general supervision and established guidelines. • Prioritize work independently, working with supervisor as needed to address any issues that affect the work of others or the program as a whole. • Make day to day decisions within the scope of work assignments.
COMMUNICATIONS/INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS: • Work and communicate with a diverse group of people including board of directors, government and legislative associates, volunteers, the public and other staff. • Consistently demonstrate professional, positive, and approachable attitude/demeanor and discretion. • Function productively as a member of a work team.
SALARY INFORMATION
This is an unpaid, short-term position beginning June 15, and ending August 28, 2009. The end date can be flexible.
