Description

Individuals looking to burnish their public lands policy, community organizing, writing and communication skills will find our Conservation Department to be a fast-paced, high-energy place where they can learn about public lands protection with a focus on defending our public land laws and pro-conservation policies from attacks from Congress and the Administration; as well as a building a broader constituency to support it.  This internship will also help build support for proactive wilderness proposals, primarily the San Juan Mountains Wilderness Act.  The intern will focus on a broad variety of tasks associated with both defending public lands and advocating for their protection, as well as building unique and diverse constituencies to support them as well as conservation as a whole
Interns will be immersed in public land defense and protection, as well as working to grow the constituency for public lands protection from day one, and will be involved in:

Internship Responsibilities

  • Research and draft support materials and alerts on public land attacks and in support of the San Juan Mountains proposal
  • Help operate a statewide, multi-organizational Rapid Response Network in defense of public lands
  • Generate turnout at key public/local government events
  • Draft letters to the editor for placement in newspapers across the state
  • Use social media and online advocacy tools to reach members and supporters.
  • Performing general administrative duties in support of campaigns or team needs.
  • Perform general administrative duties in support of assigned project work.
  • Perform other tasks as needed.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in or graduated from an educational institution with courses leading to the attainment of a degree, certification, or diploma.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with writing and editing for publication.
  • Demonstrated desire to learn about and work on public land issues.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Must be a team player and willing to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Willingness to adapt and remain flexible as projects and priorities change.
  • Self-motivated, passionate, and professional.
  • Most of all – willingness to have fun while producing great work!
