Description
Effective communications is essential if SNH is to be successful in achieving its aims for Scotland’s natural heritage and in meeting the needs of customers, partners and staff. Constantly seeking to improve our communications will enhance our profile and reputation and, ultimately, put us in a stronger position to make our work more relevant to the people of Scotland and get more people enjoying, appreciating and looking after Scotland’s nature and landscapes. To help guide us in this work, SNH has a new communications strategy.

A key part of the strategy is SNH’s brand – who we are, what we do and what we stand for. We have a new visual style and this is reflected in our recent publications. We are also producing a new quarterly magazine, The Nature of Scotland, to reinforce our key messages and this is circulated to over 30,000 people. We are also working on a new corporate website.

The strategy is also moving us to a more campaigns-based approach to our communications. This enables us to focus our collective efforts on key initiatives that support the SNH Corporate Strategy and new programmes of work. The Communications Unit is focussing on three campaign areas:
• climate change;
• access and enjoying the outdoors
• National Nature Reserves.
These campaigns are still at an early stage of development

The Unit also provides tactical communication support to a wide range of other priority initiatives; at present these include the Planning Reform Project, Sustainable Rural Development Programme, Species Action Framework and Placebook Scotland.

This new post will support the development and delivery of these campaigns, particularly in relation to promotion and marketing. The post will also support the delivery of other communications priorities as required
