We are seeking a Project Officer to work with our partners to deliver our joint Wilder Humber Project with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust until mid-2027. This pioneering project is trialling the combined restoration of dune, saltmarsh, seagrass and native oyster habitats in collaboration with and supported by Ørsted, a leading global renewable energy company. Joining the technical Wilder Humber Team hosted across both Trusts, this specialist Project Officer will lead the workstream on saltmarsh and sand dune.

Responsible for overseeing our newly created plant nursery facility and cultivating relevant species for the Wilder Humber Project, the successful candidate will developing a volunteer training and work programme to support this, as well as undertaking site surveys and monitoring of impacts, and supporting the work of the other specialists and habitat work. Applicants will need a sound knowledge of saltmarsh as a fully functioning ecological habitat within complex estuarine settings, including knowing the issues they face and solutions to managing, restoring and enhancing this habitat. An understanding of sand dunes and their flora is also useful.

The individuals need to have a ‘can do’ attitude of working with people to secure opportunities for large-scale nature recovery across the Humber Estuary, working with their counterparts within Yorkshire forming one team. Experience in partnership working, advocacy and project management will be required, as well as having excellent communication skills, a high level of commitment to nature’s recovery and a desire to achieve change. A relevant environmental qualification or equivalent working experience and a full current UK driving licence are required.
