Chumbe Island Coral Park Ltd. (CHICOP) is a sustainable private Marine Protected Area (MPA) based in Zanzibar/Tanzania. Since establishment it has become renowned as the first financially independent and self-sustaining MPA in East Africa, made viable through the establishment of an award winning eco-lodge utilizing commercial principles with not for profit objectives to generate self-financing of the park. The park includes a protected reef sanctuary and forest reserve. There is also a visitors’ centre with a working classroom used for Chumbe's environmental education programs. Ecotourism supports park management, research and education programs for local schools.
CHICOP is now recruiting for a Project Manager, to be based in Zanzibar. Masters degree preferred; minimum 3 years experience managing field based conservation programs, preferably in East Africa. Project Manager will oversee all programmatic activities; manage team of 40 staff; liaise with wide range of institutions (government agencies, universities, research groups, education agencies etc); and oversee / promote chumbe as a leading global ecotourism destination.
