Description

The Orchard Project are a national charity that inspires and trains communities to create, restore and maintain community orchards for the benefit of people, communities and the environment. Our Project Managers and consultants work with communities in hubs across England and Scotland, and we have a core staff based in London.

We’ve been around since 2009 and have grown from the London Orchard Project to become the country’s national community orchard charity. We have created and restored over 250 community orchards and run training with adults, in schools, orchard heritage events and orchard enterprises.

We are recruiting for 2 posts based in Glasgow and Edinburgh to support the organisation in delivering our ground-breaking community orchard programme, Helping Britain Blossom.

Glasgow Project Manager (3 days/ week) & Edinburgh Project Manager (3.5 days/ week) £24,840 pro rata plus 5% matched pension contribution

The Project Managers will be responsible for coordinating all activities leading to the successful creation of community orchards. This will involve working with communities to plant new and maintain existing orchards and coordinating events and training that will help to establish the orchard at the heart of the community. The role comprises project and events management, monitoring and evaluation, budget management, communications and social media, networking and partnership working and some technical and practical support.

We are looking for candidates with excellent knowledge and experience of supporting and managing community projects, ideally in community orchards although this is not essential. Applicants should have some familiarity with the grassroots, not-for-profit and local decision-making structures in central Scotland. The Edinburgh candidate should ideally have experience in CSR projects and/or engaging company employees in charitable projects.

If you have a track record of excellent community projects and networking and are passionate about making a positive difference to greenspaces and the communities that live and work in and around them then we want to hear from you.

Both posts are for a 12 month fixed term contract and we are confident in securing additional funding which will extend the contract by at least a further 12 months.

Application Procedure

We are committed to creating an inclusive working environment, where diversity is valued and there is equality of opportunity. We therefore welcome applications from all sections of the community and we offer a range of benefits to encourage a work life balance.
