Programme Officer – World SHP Development Report Project

 

About IC-SHP

InternationalCenteron Small Hydro Power (ICSHP) is a public and non-profit institution directly under auspices of United Nations Industrial and Development Organization (UNIDO),China’s Ministry of Water Resources and Ministry of Commerce. ICSHP serves as the headquarters of the International Network on Small Hydro Power (INSHP), which is an international organization with more than about 400 members from 78 countries.

 

World SHP Development Report Project

The first World SHP Development Report (WSHPDR) will be published this spring, which includes country reports for all countries from all regions of this world that use or have small hydropower potential. Related to this ICSHP has collected case studies that need to be published separately.

 

There is the opportunity two self-motivated team players to join the World SHP Development Report Secretariat based at IC-SHP and to support the publication process of several documents related to the WSHPDR. Since the report secretariat communicates globally also with francophone and Spanish-speaking countries, additional language skills are desirable.

 

Tasks for the World SHP Development Report project may include

-         Editing and proofreading of existing contributions

-         Concept development and follow-up research for new publication

-         Division support (e.g. project proposals, translations, newsletter, homepage contributions)

-         Maintaining contact with network members

 

Qualifications and Experience

At least a Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s preferred) with at least 1 year working experience in one of the following areas: environmental policy, renewable energy, engineering, international relations, international or development economics and Chinese affairs.

 

Essential skills

-         Native English or very good English level

-         Editing and proof-reading experience

-         Ability to plan, prioritize and deliver tasks on time

-         Ability to work autonomously

-         Excellent communication skills to maintain relations with network members or other international institutions

 

Desired skills

-         Other language skills (e.g. French, Spanish, Russian or other)

-         Project management skills

-         Experience in publishing papers, reports

 

Salary and Visa Information

The role here is classified as “voluntary”. Applications will therefore have to apply for the “F” Business Visa generally. Here at the ICSHP, whilst we cannot influence the outcome of any visa decision, we do provide administrative support for your application.

The successful candidate will be provided, in return for full time hours (8.30-16.30 Monday to Friday) the following:

-         Free and secure accommodation at the center with cooking facilities

-         One free meal Monday to Friday

-         Basic pocket money to meet additional needs (3000 RMB/month)

It is important that given the voluntary nature of the position that any applicants have the necessary finance to purchase the flight and obtain the “F” visa as the center does not reimburse these costs.

Length of contract is for 6 months initially (with the option to extend).

Preferred starting date: as soon as possible.
