The International Centre on Small Hydro Power (ICSHP) is a public and non-profit institution directly under auspices of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), China’s Ministry of Water Resources and Ministry of Commerce. Program Officer: Member Services and Information

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • To help the existing team with the coordination of services for the Network members, and to develop new membership links.
  • Identify and communicate with potential projects within member organizations.
  • Popularise new small hydropower technology in IN-SHP member countries and other developing countries.
  • Promote technology transfer betweenChinaand IN-SHP member countries and the use of appropriate technology for rural electrification projects in poor areas.
  • Assist the organisation with international conferences and seminars.
  • Assist with the development of project proposals.
  • Help the organisation to stay abreast with relevant knowledge in the field.
  • Help to establish and maintain the databases of relevant SHP statistics.
  • Collect, update and edit SHP newsletter and relevant publications.
  • Assist the update of the homepage.

Qualifications and Experience

At least a University Bachelors Degree in engineering (with some focus on hydropower technologies) or at least 3 years experience in one of the following areas: hydropower development institutes, public utilities and governments in developing countries.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of renewable energy or environment sector.
  • Excellent communication skills to maintain relations with bilateral donors institutions.
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and deliver tasks on time.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • English native speaker
  • Fluency in written and spoken French, Spanish is preferred

Ideal Skills

These skills are not essential in obtaining this role but will be highly valued:

  • Project management experience.
  • Experience of working in a not-for-profit organisation for at least one year, preferably in the field of environment / social development and poverty alleviation/ international aid (preferably in NGOs or international organisations).
  • Background knowledge of renewable energy sector inChinadesirable.
  • Basic knowledge of Mandarin Chinese

Salary and Visa Information

The role here is classified as “voluntary”. Applications will therefore have to apply for the “F” Business Visa generally. Here at the ICSHP, whilst we cannot influence the outcome of any VISA decision, we do provide administrative support for your APPLICATION.

The successful candidate will be provided, in return for full time hours (8.30-16.30 Monday to Friday) the following:

  • Free and secure accommodation at the center with kitchen facilities
  • Personal office space equipped with desk, computer, internet connection and telephone
  • One free meal Monday to Friday
  • Basic pocket money to meet additional needs
  • Start-up support on arrival (in obtaining a telephone, bank account)

It is important that given the voluntary nature of the position that any applicants have the necessary finance to purchase the flight and obtain the “F” visa as the center does not reimburse these costs.
