Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Principal Ecologist with particular expertise in team management, to join a leading ecological consultancy.   You will play an important role within the business, advising on the management board and working closely with the MD to deliver high quality ecological services within London and the South East.  Your team will be made up of habitat and protected species specialists, whom you will manage and mentor through the delivery of a variety of projects from small extensions to major infrastructure developments.

Responsibilities of the post:

As a Principal Ecologist you will;

  • Project manage a busy and varied workload whilst supervising staff;
  • Carry out protected survey work and manage a number of individual complex projects at one time;
  • Make contributions to the Continual Professional Development of team members and take the lead in internal and external training events and workshops;
  • Work to developed excellent relationships with clients, representing the company at client and design team meetings.
  • Confidently advise clients on wildlife issues during the development process, drawing on relevant UK and EU legislation.

Qualifications / Experience:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • An appropriate degree(s);
  • Full IEEM Membership;
  • A substantial track record of report writing and provision of critical review of own and others work including; Phase 1 survey reports, protected species survey reports and ES chapters;
  • Previous experience of managing a team where project work has included protected species surveys and assessments;
  • Full clean driving licence;
  • Experience of producing ecology chapters as part of EcIA;
  • Extensive experience at a senior level in ecological consultancy;
  • A proven track record of project management skills ideally with some project management qualifications;
  • Confidence and experience at dealing with clients and business partners at a high level.
