Job title: Principal Ecologist

Location: Manchester

Rate: £35,000 - £45,000 D.O.E

Job Summary:

Our client is a leading infrastructure company specialising in the highways, water, property, waste and environmental sectors. Due to continued growth, they are seeking to appoint a Principal Ecologist to lead the North of England ecology team and develop client relationships.

 

The candidate’s role will be to lead a team of ecologists and manage the ecological input to a variety of projects across North of England.  This is an excellent opportunity for a confident ecologist, with a successful track record of ecological project delivery within the consultancy field, to be part of the team’s diverse service offering, across public and private sectors.


Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead, manage and coordinate the technical delivery of a team of ecologists
  • Plan, prepare, supervise and carry out a range of ecological surveys, including protected species
  • Prepare and review reports, including the ecological impact assessments
  • Prepare bid and proposals and ensure retained work through developing excellent client relationships
  • Maximise internal business development opportunities in addition to developing external client relationship
  • Mentor more junior staff and assist in their professional development.

Qualifications / Experience:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Relevant first degree and/ or postgraduate degree
  • Chartered with a relevant professional body (e.g. CIEEM)
  • Proven track record of leadership in ecological consultancy with a high level of commercial awareness and experience of building longstanding  client relationships
  • Experience of working with contractors and managing ecological aspects of major construction projects
  • Proven project management experience, including budget management, scoping, estimating and tendering for work
  • Knowledge of UK & European wildlife legislation particularly relating to commonly occurring protected species and species of high conservation importance
  • Experience in mentoring and developing junior colleagues.
