You will be used to leading a team of ecologists working as part of a multi-disciplinary group on a variety of projects, both large and small, including water resource strategic studies, hydro-ecology investigations and terrestrial developments, probably as part of a larger EIA team and being the person responsible for overseeing and reviewing the production of the ecology reports.

Experience -Ecological desk studies & reports

You will be competent to produce and technically review the content of all forms of ecological report including water resources strategic studies, fisheries management, chapters of EIAs and appropriate assessments.

Habitats and species assessment

Experience terrestrial Phase I habitat surveys and competent botanical identification skills for the plants of terrestrial and wetland ecosystems would be an advantage.

Ecological impact assessment and mitigation

Experience of Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) is required and expertise in developing mitigation strategies for minimising any impacts on habitats and species of conservation importance is expected.

Project management

You will be able to undertake scoping, estimating and tendering for contracts and be proficient in scheduling people and allocating resources to project work. You will have responsibility for both the day-to-day management of project costs as well as overseeing the management of costs by others, so competence in budgetary control is essential.

Line management experience

You will be experienced in the line management of other in-house ecologists ranging from recent graduates to more experienced grades so you must have the desire and ability to act as a technical mentor to more junior staff and ensure the effective transfer of ecological skills.

We are actively involved in developing novel ideas and innovative methods for ecological investigation and assessment in collaboration with Statutory Authorities and research institutions, so an enquiring mind and the ability to communicate your ideas clearly is expected.
