Job title: Principal Ecological Consultant

Rate: £35,000 - £38,000 DOE

Job Summary:

Due to continuing success a leading environmental consultancy is looking to recruit a Principal Ecological consultant to join their team in Oxford.

You will have the opportunity to manage and lead the ecology team and deliver ecological consultancy and mitigation works in a fast moving, client focused commercial environment. You will work on exciting, large and complex projects, managing all commercial aspects whilst also liaising with clients to win new business and projects.

Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

The successful Principal Ecological Consultant will:

  • Manage, train and mentor a team of ecology staff to develop technical, commercial and business development skills.
  • Source and instruct contractors and technical experts both internal and external.
  • Review and manage delivery of work completed by other staff and subcontractors.
  • Lead and undertake high level ecological work including:
    • Preparing EPS licence applications
    • Carrying out surveys and mitigation
    • Leading and writing ecological sections of Environmental Impact Assessments
    • Preparing specifications
    • Scoping and submitting quotes and proposals for new and existing clients
  • Take a lead role in managing key accounts and ecology frameworks.
    • Maintain and develop client relationships to win new business.

Qualifications / Experience:

The successful principal ecological consultant will have:

  • A degree in a relevant subject
  • Chartership to a relevant institution
  • At least one European Protected Species licence
  • Experience of managing projects and teams.
  • Practiced at undertaking the final review of documents
  • Experience of liaising with developers and working in the development sector
  • Client facing and commercially minded, with experience of winning new business.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • A flexible approach to working in terms of type of work, time and location.
