Our sanctuary rescues ex-pet, ex-zoo and ex-lab monkeys. Non of our primates are indigenous to South Africa and as a lot of them have behavioural issues they can not be released back in the wild. Because of this, caring for our monkeys is very hands on and enjoyable. All volunteers help with the following aspects of primate care:
- Food preparation and feeding
- Distributing supplements, primate pellets and conducting health checks on the primates
- Cleaning and maintaining the enclosures
- Observations and monitoring
- Recording behaviours and concerns in the daily observation book
- Attend daily morning meetings when on duty.
- Supervising short term volunteers and day.
- All long term volunteers are required to do morning feeds and evening bowl collection on a rota basis.
- Working hours are flexible for this position. There may be times when you are asked to work outside normal working hours.
- At all times you may be required to perform duties outside your job description.
- Have a good level of fitness.
- Minimum age of 23 is desirable dependent on experience.
This position is for minumum 1 year, with 1 month probation period. You work 5 days a week and get 2 days off a week.
