Description: Our Centre, at Southampton, represents a collaborative partnership with the University of Southampton’s School of Ocean and Earth Science (OES); this partnership is underpinned by the Graduate School of NOCS, which, with over 200 PhD students, represents one of the largest postgraduate marine science communities in the World -http://noc.ac.uk/gsnocs.
The NERC Directorate of Science and Technology at the NOC contains five research groups. Our science has high socio-economic impact and tackles many of the major environmental issues of immediate concern to both Government and public.
We are now looking to recruit a high-quality candidate to a four-year fixed- term post at NERC Bands 5 or 6 (indicative salaries provided below) to strengthen and expand our research in the Marine Geoscience group. http://noc.ac.uk/science-technology/research-groups/mg
This post is available in marine geohazards or clastic sedimentology and the post-holder will be responsible for developing their own research projects as well as co-ordinating a recently awarded £2.3M NERC Research Programme ‘Will climate change in the Arctic increase the landslide-tsunami risk to the UK’.
You will have excellent organizational and inter-personal skills, and a proven track record of high-quality scientific publications. Two PhD students associated with this programme will shortly be advertised on the Graduate School website of NOC (link above).

This post is offered on NERC terms and conditions, with indicative salaries at Band 6 (Staff Scientist) being £26,180 to £29,410 per annum and Band 5 (Senior Staff Scientist) being £30,710 to £37,120 per annum (depending upon experience).
