Location: Marine Geoscience Group, Directorate of Science and Technology, National Oceanography Centre (NOC), Southampton

Description: Our Centre, at Southampton, represents a collaborative partnership with the University of Southampton’s School of Ocean and Earth Science (OES); this partnership is underpinned by the Graduate School of NOCS, which, with over 200 PhD students, represents one of the largest postgraduate marine science communities in the World -http://noc.ac.uk/gsnocs. 

The NERC Directorate of Science and Technology at the NOC contains five research groups. Our science has high socio-economic impact and tackles many of the major environmental issues of immediate concern to both Government and public. 

We are now looking to recruit a high-quality candidate to a two-year fixed- term post to strengthen and expand our research in the Marine Geoscience group. http://noc.ac.uk/science-technology/research-groups/mg 

You will work on a specific project ‘Investigating the influence of basement and water depth on the composition and distribution of hydrothermal polymetallic sulphide deposits at the world’s deepest known spreading ridge: the Mid-Cayman Rise’. You will undertake lab-based geochemical analyses, be familiar with massive sulphide mineralisation and be prepared to join our research team on a cruise to the Mid-Cayman Rise in 2013.

This post is offered on NERC terms and conditions and the salary will be in the range of £26,180 to £29,410 per annum.
