Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) is recruiting a post-doctoral researcher to work as part of ateam which is investigating the implications of a shift to a green economy in India. The position will be linked to a project titled ‘Greenmentality: A Political Ecology of the Green Economy in the Global South’, which is funded by the Research Council of Norway.
Research project
What type of governance does the unfolding green economy lead to in the Global South? How does it influence rural production systems and how do rural people respond to its implementation? These are the main questions that this research project will investigate through detailed empirical fieldwork in a selection of cases in East Africa and India. The project will combine the notion of ‘governmentality’ with theories of resistance, social agency and critical institutionalism. Specifically, the project will examine governmentalities and their reactions ‘from below’ in three main land-uses (ecotourism, carbon forestry and climate-smart agriculture), which have been highlighted by various policy and strategy papers on the green economy in a developing context.
