01/08/14 - 04/08/14
This weekend practical course is aimed at anyone wishing to gain experience in the recognition of plants found in bogs and mires. This is a subject covering many different plant families, from showy species such as bog asphodel, to the 'quieter' grasses, sedges and rushes. The accent is on identification through examination of characteristic features. Heathland and mire ecology (and NVC) will also be considered briefly and some key bryophytes. The course will be mainly field-based, visiting a variety of heathland and mire sites in the varied topography of Shropshire.
