Description

Position description: Is a day filled with being outdoors, collecting seeds, potting plants and planting out trees your idea of fun? Do you love to garden and have a knack for learning different types of plants as well as the types of environment they’ll grow in? Do you want to gain practical experience in botanical work while also learning about conservation management and helping to make the world a better place? If so this could be a perfect position for you!

Brief Overview: The role of the Plant Conservationist is to help Echo in its reforestation efforts.  The position involves managing our native plant nursery, actively collecting seeds from across the island and coordinating planting events to help reforest protected areas.  The applicant must have experience with plant identification and basic landscaping and horticultural skills.  This position will have both research and conservation components as well as the opportunity to be involved in community engagement and outreach efforts, if you so choose.   You must be self-motivated, willing to work independently and, physically and mentally fit.

Accommodation is provided for all Echo volunteers at our Dos Pos conservation center. This is a field camp in a remote location please make sure the conditions work for you. Check our FAQ: http://www.echobonaire.org/volunteer/faq/

Requirements: Preference will be given to candidates who can stay for 3 months, and to those who can demonstrate skills and experience in this field. A minimum of one month commitment will also be considered, with the option to extend.

Volunteers must to travel independently to Bonaire and must have travel insurance.

Financial details: Echo is a small NGO. Volunteers are expected to fund international travel and their food ($50-$70/week) once here.
