Outdoor Education Instructor Seasonal, April 20th to Oct 30th (TBC) 2015 (2 week paid break Aug 17th-28th).
 
We are looking for an Outdoor Education Instructor to join our team at Escot Park near Ottery St Mary in East Devon. We specifically need someone with a passion for teaching in the outdoors and an ability to connect with children, teachers, parents and other staff in a professional and friendly manner.

Requirements

We ask that applicants for this role have a degree in outdoor education, conservation or teaching with at least 2 years environmental education teaching experience. We will also consider candidates without a degree, but who have a minimum of 3 years experience in outdoor education and appropriate training certification.  We also require that you have a first aid certificate including paediatric CPR by the start of the fixed term contract. Candidates with forest school certification are desirable for this role, however applicants without, will still be considered. We are looking for an enthusiastic educator with some office experience who can be a role model for children. Flexible working hours during Mon-Fri are vital, however there are no evening requirements after 4pm on Fridays. We need applicants to be able to work on their own and as part of a team, can multitask, are creative, and have a great approach to liaising with teachers/parents and know how to create a fun and safe environment for children. Training is given for this job.

Duties

  • To prep yurt village before school arrival, prepare activities and organise logistics
  • To meet and greet school children and teachers and help them move in/out of yurt village
  • Help run safety orientation meetings with children and teachers
  • To plan and teach environmental activities in a professional and fun manner to children aged 6-14
  • Assist the Education Manager with Camp Wild staff training and be an instructor for our summer camp (July 20th to Aug 14th)
  • Support the Education Manager and Education Officer in office tasks and on site requirements
  • To help keep the yurt village site clean and tidy and undertake any maintenance tasks such as waterproofing the yurts, painting, or fixing things.
  • Prep yurt village for the spring teaching season and help the Education Manager update the curriculum.
  • Assist the Education Officer and his team at the Greenwood Centre with groups if and when required
  • Lead one/two evening programmes per week.
  • Help with food deliveries for all residential programmes
  • Assist the Education Manager with office and site tasks where required

 

Hours: 30-40 hours per week (as required) and one evening programme per week. Potential opportunities to gain experience in other areas of the park.

Appointment to the above position is subject to successful candidates receiving full clearance from the Criminal Records Bureau and 2 reference checks. 

Salary: £8.25 per hour. Closing date: Fri March 20th
