Under the direction of the Executive Vice President, lead and direct IFAW Oceania regional office operations within budgetary and policy guidelines, assuring the integration of office activities and the achievement of IFAW’s worldwide and region-specific strategic mission and goals. Assure the organisation and development of high-quality Oceania regional staff and consulting network to assure that IFAW’s highest-priority campaign objectives are achieved and that Oceania-specific campaigns and Animal Welfare actions are effectively and efficiently developed, implemented and monitored.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities

  • Develop and recommend long-term and short-term plans for the expansion of IFAW fundraising and programmatic work in the Oceania region.  Serve as lead communications specialist and spokesperson for IFAW in the region. Assure that IFAW is strategically positioned to take best advantage of opportunities to support IFAW’s Animal Welfare mission, to maximize Oceania’s generated net income and to create a climate and identity that which enables IFAW in Oceania to continue to grow and flourish.    
  • Provide ongoing management direction to the identification, selection and implementation of Headquarters-supported and Oceania-generated Animal Welfare campaigns and initiatives, assuring that Oceania plans and objectives are in place, are consistent with IFAW worldwide Animal Welfare strategies, and that Oceania staff are effectively organized and developed to assure the meeting of Animal Welfare campaign goals and the maximizing of emerging opportunities.
  • Provide overall leadership and management direction to Oceania office staff and consultants, assuring the responsive implementation of IFAW’s human resources policies and the identification, selection, recognition, training and development of a collaborative and fully integrated group of high-quality personnel organized to resolve Oceania’s organization wide problems and to achieve IFAW’s Oceania and world-wide objectives.
  • Assure the development and achievement of Oceania-specific fund development and revenue-generation strategies, objectives and annual targets, and work collaboratively with the Headquarters’ Development Department to assure the responsive and effective implementation of IFAW’s worldwide fund development campaigns within Oceania, continuously monitoring Oceania’s performance against established targets, assuring the development of timely and accurate reports of progress and the identification of emerging opportunities.
  • Manage and provide direction to IFAW’s Oceania Region marketing efforts as part of a world-wide effort, assuring that activities and programs are responsively and opportunistically created, developed in conjunction with the headquarters Communications staff, and implemented to actively promote IFAW’s major campaigns objectives and Oceania-specific Animal Welfare goals. In collaboration and active partnership with IFAW's Communications Director, assure that public affairs expert consultants and actions are consistent with overall IFAW world-wide campaign objectives and Oceania-specific animal welfare needs and requirements.
  • Collaborate with Headquarters and other Country and Regional Offices to assure effective integration of regional efforts in support of international interests and objectives, acting consistently as a member of the regional team and working to assure that the region as a whole maximizes opportunities for achieving IFAW overall and country-specific animal welfare and fund development objectives.
  • Provide leadership to the development of systems to support open communication and on-going generation of Oceania's office climate and culture that is team-based, collaborative, integrated within the region and throughout the world to assure a cohesive and powerful IFAW presence in support of the IFAW animal welfare vision, mission and overall objectives.
  • Work closely with the Executive Vice President to assure that Oceania staff are appropriately supported and integrated into Oceania office-wide and overall IFAW activities.
  • Provide overall executive oversight to the day-to-day management of Oceania’s office administration, including information systems, finance and accounting, donor and customer relations, human resources, facilities, and support systems management to assure the smooth and effective running of an efficient office.
  • Direct the preparation of the Oceania integrated planning and budget documents, assuring the accurate projection of anticipated revenues and operating expenses and ongoing results against target are carefully monitored for continuous cost-effective management of Oceania’s effort.
  • Develop and implement an IFAW Oceania Performance Management system and practice assuring the development of specific performance goals and outcomes for IFAW Oceania positions, and the continuous management and development of IFAW personnel within Oceania office to assure accountability for the achievement of identified results.

Job Requirements

  • Leadership qualities which are demonstrated through a track record of 5 years plus in senior management.
  • Extensive professional background in non-profit management, preferably within the animal welfare community.
  • Skilled communicator both verbally and in writing, required in English and preferably in one other language.
  • Ability to take on management oversight as well as directly engage in fundraising, communications, and campaign related tasks.
  • Drive and initiative to create change and innovate.
  • Strategic thinker and persuasive communicator.
