16/05/14 - 19/05/14
On the first day of this course we will visit local sites with a range of different woodland types. We will classify their vegetation using the National Vegetation Classification (NVC). In doing so, we will consider the ecology of the various woodland types and their place in a wider British context. There will also be indoor sessions in the evenings. The NVC teaching will make use of publications such as volume 1 (woodlands and scrub) of the NVC series. However, it will not be based strictly around the collection and analysis of quadrat data; it will be more general, considering different approaches to vegetation classification.
