The New Climate Economy (NCE) is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized individual who thrives in dynamic team environment to provide support for the New Climate Economy’s Annual Summit and Annual Report as well as assist NCE team members with various tasks. This is an excellent position for someone seeking to work on a high impact and high profile project, liaise with a network of leading global think tanks, governments, and international organisations, and gain a breadth of exposure from engagement and communications planning to economic analysis and report writing.
The New Climate Economy (NCE) examines how countries can achieve economic growth while dealing with the risks posed by climate change. NCE is the flagship project of a major international initiative, the Global Commission on the Economy and Climate. Chaired by former President of Mexico Felipe Calderón, the Commission comprises former heads of government, finance ministers, and leaders in the fields of economics and business, and provides direction and guidance to NCE. The project is undertaken by a global partnership of 8 leading research institutes, with WRI as the managing partner.
Responsibilities
The intern will gain experience in the following areas:
Assisting in quick research and synthesis of materials, and in organizing, analyzing and presenting relevant data
Assist with tasks relating to NCE’s Annual Summit, including tracking invitee responses and contact information, travel and accommodation logistics, itineraries, and preparation of content and materials
Assisting in the setup and implementation of additional targeted engagement activities
Assisting with preparing issue or country-specific briefing notes for engagement opportunities
Reviewing funding proposals
Drafting other notes or inputs to research reports as required
Editing/proofreading
Writing newsletters
Media monitoring and research
Supporting online communications and social media
Stakeholder engagement database review
Qualifications
Required: Currently enrolled or recently completed a bachelor's degree in International Relations, Economics, Environmental Science, Communications, or another relevant field). Master's Degree preferred.
Excellent writing skills
Strong oral communications skills
Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as part of a team
Ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner
Commitment to WRI’s mission and values and interest in climate and energy issues
Strong computer skills including high level of comfort with Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint, web-based communications (e.g., Skype, GoToMeeting, etc.), and Internet research
Highly responsible, self-motivated
Extremely well organized and efficient
Social media experience desirable
WRI does not sponsor interns for visas of any kind. Must have authorization to work in the U.S. to be eligible for this position.
Final candidate will be required to take a writing test
Stipend: Stipend will be available to defray some minor expenses.
Duration: 3 Months
Start/End Months: Mid May 2016 – Mid September 2016 (specific dates flexible)
