Description

We are looking to fill the position of a researcher at the Research Associate or Senior Research Associate level for the project “Adapting to Climate Change in Urbanizing Watersheds (ACCUWa)” (http://www.atree.org/project-ACCUWa).

The candidate will assist in undertaking field and desk based research on coupled human-water system research on the transformation of water systems, institutions and people under urbanization, demographic and climate change in the Noyyal sub-basin of Tamil Nadu and the Arkavathy watershed in Bengaluru. The position is primarily natural science oriented but offers the exciting challenge of working in an interdisciplinary environment, combining insights from both the social and biophysical sciences. The ideal candidate should possess knowledge of both water quality and quantity problems.

The ideal candidate should possess:

  1. At least a Masters in Environmental Science, Hydrology, Water Resources or Civil Engineering or related fields with knowledge of environmental and sustainability issues.
  2. Skills and experience in undertaking field research, gathering data from a variety of sources including comfort with collecting field samples and managing instruments in the field.
  3. Ability to manage and analyse both qualitative and quantitative data, including skills in using software such as MODFLOW, QUAL-2K, SWAT etc.
  4. Some competence in Q-GIS is preferred but not required.
  5. Competence in English communication, both oral and written.
  6. Familiarity with urban hydrology preferred but not required.

Gross salary: Rs. 25,000 to 35,000 per month depending upon qualifications and experience. Designation (RA or SRA) will also depend upon qualifications and experience. The position will be based primarily in the Coimbatore field office with monthly trips to Bangalore.

Duration of appointment: at least 1 year (to be confirmed after the first 3 months) and up to 2 years.
