Job Title: National Bequest Officer 
Location: Melbourne Office
Hours: Part Time (22.5 hours per week, occasionally including work out of normal hours)
TWS Salary Level: 3.1
Pay: $47,250 pro rata,  plus 9% superannuation

Purpose of position

The Forever Wild bequest program is designed to build revenue for the long-term funding and success of WildCountry, the Wilderness Society’s continent-wide vision and strategy to revolutionise conservation in Australia through supporting connectivity between species, habitat, climate and people.  The Forever Wild Bequest Program aims to educate and inform supporters of the need to have a Will and to encourage them to include a gift or bequest to TWS.

The Bequest Officer’s role is to be the initial point of contact for all bequest enquiries, including processing of information, follow up and relationship building through home visits, phone calls and email correspondence where necessary.  The role will also involve maintaining the bequest database, ensuring the bequest pages on the Wilderness Society’s website are up to date, identifying and developing bequest prospects.

A large part of the bequest team’s role within the organisation is to organise and attend Forever Wild Bequest events across the country in conjunction with state campaign centres, as well as coordinate trips to campaign hot spots to give bequestors the opportunity to learn first hand about Wilderness Society campaigns from the campaigners themselves.

This position will report to the National Bequest Manager who is based in Melbourne and will also work closely with the front of house team based in Hobart.

We are seeking a person with a caring, confident and sensitive approach with excellent interpersonal skills. Previous fundraising experience is preferred but not essential.  However, the successful applicant will have experience in a service role or marketing position and have high ethical standards.  A commitment to the environment is essential.

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Nurture existing benefactors
  • Identify and develop positive relationships with potential benefactors
  • Handle bequest enquiries and follow up from supporters and solicitors
  • Coordinate and attend events
  • Documentation and reporting of all communications
  • Assisting with promotion of the bequest program internally, including attending face-to-face meetings as required
  • Assisting Bequest Manager in developing strategy and integration with other fundraising departments.
  • Updating Wilderness Defenders on developments within the Bequest program and making sure they are in a position to inform people of the basics of the Forever Wild Bequest Program.
  • Maintaining accurate record keeping of all bequest contacts on the primary contact management database (Raisers Edge)

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Commitment to the Wilderness Society’s purpose and values, including commitment to success in protecting the environment
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
  • High attention to detail and an ability to prioritise projects and manage time
  • Demonstrated event management skills
  • Demonstrated maturity and high ethical standards in dealing with sensitive financial and confidential matters, as well as experience in relating sensitively to people of all ages, financial and social backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated public speaking ability
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and at least one kind of database management program
