Definition
The Mexico Program Manager is responsible for the oversight of all aspects of EPI’s Mexico Program. Primary responsibilities include: program leadership; communication between field site and main office; planning, management, evaluation, and improvement of the field courses, outreach activities, and EPI Campus; supervision of in-country staff; development of relations and collaboration with in-country partners and vendors; budget administration; and risk management. The Program Manager works with the Global Programs Manager and other senior staff to ensure a fiscally (recruitment and fundraising) and legally sound program.

Responsibilities:
• Plan, manage and evaluate EPI’s Mexico Programs from La Paz, Mexico with occasional travel to EPI’s field programs and the EPI Main office in Missoula, Montana;
• Ensure high quality, safety and effectiveness of program content and delivery while striving for operational efficiency;
• Manage in-country human resources; Recruit, hire, inspire, train, develop, guide and supervise and programming personnel and instructors, and ensure collaboration and proper coordination with the rest of the staff; identify, prioritize and pursue professional-development opportunities that produce highest return for resources spent;
• Build, strengthen, and leverage key strategic partnerships with local, regional, and international non-profit organizations and government agencies to achieve EPI’s mission and goals;
• Develop budget forecasts; monitor spending and oversee program accounting month to month; ensure the timely negotiations and execution of client contracts;
• Work with other staff to develop effective strategies for fundraising, student recruitment, pricing, promotions and program content; help identify potential fee- and income-producing opportunities, and cost-cutting opportunities;
• Ensure program activities fulfill EPI’s vision, mission, and strategic goals; stay fluent in “best practices” as they apply to regional conservation and environmental education;
• Evaluate existing and potentially new education and program offerings and ensure that program content is aligned with current proficiency requirements when appropriate;
• Oversee any special projects assigned by senior staff and designated as high priority;
• Maintain good humor and apply professional, common-sense solutions to everyday challenges.

Schedule and Location: The Mexico Program Manager will work full-time, year round from the EPI office in based in La Paz, B.C.S., Mexico with some time occasionally spent travelling throughout the state of Baja California Sur or to the main EPI office in Montana in the United States.

Supervision: The Program Manager is responsible to the Global Programs Manager.

Qualifications:
_Required:_
• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Natural Sciences, Education, or Non-profit Administration;
• Five plus years of program management experience, including supervising staff, providing financial oversight, legal support, and developing and executing programs
• Oral and written Spanish and English fluency;
• Excellent written and oral communication;
• Experience in leadership and the processes of teaching and learning, especially with young adults;
• Two plus years of experience with environmental education or experiential field programs;
• Proven ability to maintain and strengthen strategic program partnerships with non-profit and government agencies;
• Two plus years of financial management including accounting and budgeting;
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software;
• Excellent organizational skills, ability to pay attention to details and work independently;
• Ability to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends; ability to spend time in the field and traveling to EPI’s Montana office;
• Experience living and working in Latin America, especially Baja California Sur, Mexico;

_Preferred:_

• Master’s degree in Natural Sciences, Biology, Education, or Non-profit Administration;
• Wilderness First Responder and CPR certification;
• Familiarity with the culture, economy, and politics in Mexico, especially La Paz
• Legal documentation to live/work in Mexico
