Description
IMPORTANT:  This Advertiser has requested that applicants MUST be National Residents / Valid Work Permit-holders.  Other applicants need not apply.

The Rainforest Alliance is a not-for-profit organization that works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behaviour.

The Rainforest Alliance Markets Transformation division works with major companies and their supply chains on transforming practices related to procurement of agricultural raw materials, ensuring accountability and sustainability of production/farming and purchasing practices. Many of the companies we work with source ingredients such as tea, coffee, cocoa, palm oil and beef from ecologically sensitive areas. By committing to purchase products and ingredients from sustainably managed certified farming operations, companies have the ability to foster widespread positive change at the landscape level – conserving forests, waterways, soil, and critical habitat and raising the standard of living of communities in the developing world.

Project

The intern will be trained in commodity and markets research and coached by experts in supply chain management. Projects may include assessing supply chain structures and sustainability issues of specific commodities and crops (desk-top surveys and interviews), and assisting in the drafting of recommendations to engage with industries committed to sustainable supply chains. Interviews will be carried to finalize the scope of work.

Qualifications

Ideal for undergraduates or graduate business students in good academic standing. We are looking for self-starters; resourceful and detail-oriented individuals with great communications skills. Sound research skills, adeptness with the Internet and Microsoft Office, and ability to interact professionally with companies’ staff via the phone and e-mail required.

We propose a minimum 3 month commitment, working 3-5 days per week.   This is a voluntary internship, with lunch expenses up to £5 a day and travel within London Zones 1-6 reimbursed.
