We are growing! Here at the Maritime and Coastguard agency we are developing a new and innovative team to cover key areas such as Decarbonisation and Autonomy - we are looking for forward thinking professionals to help build and develop this team to help create a better future.

This is an exciting time to join the MCA as the Maritime Emissions Reduction Engineering Lead.
You will be leading a diverse and dedicated team who are responsible for interfacing between industry innovation and policy functions to enable the implementation of Emissions Reduction technologies to achieve the Maritime 2050 Zero Emission Shipping Vision. Leading on the MCA’s change and adaption of safe regulations related to the new paradigm of Emissions Reduction and Alternative Fuels in the global shipping industry.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Lead in the development and maintenance of the Regulatory Innovation programme/work plan and the deliver against the plan.
• Create and maintain strong links with industry/academia to develop an understanding of the technical aspects of the various emerging technology routes and associated risks.
• Build expertise in implementation of new fuels from a regulatory perspective so that technical advice can be given to operators to design and build ships with new propulsion technologies and energy saving measures.
• Responsible for facilitating the development of Maritime regulation (within MCA remit) and engagement with other regulators that have an interest to strategically enable the scale uptake of zero emission technologies to support the Government's ambitions set out in the Clean Maritime Plan.
• Responsible for facilitating industry stakeholders input to the regulatory update process in light of emerging technologies. Including cases for best practice.
• Lead on advisory function with the domestic fleet to support the implementation of low emission solutions.
• Support the development of the UK training capability to ensure it is fit for future technologies.
• Influence discussions on Emission Reduction at the International Maritime Organisation.
• Providing input and insight to Maritime and Coastguard Agency / Department For Transport and other key government stakeholders on emerging technology that will effect policy and regulation in the future of the shipping industry.
• Engage in Classification Societies rule development.

About You
Coming to us with a Core discipline in systems or safety engineering with proven experience of working with emerging technologies you will be an ambitious individual who wants to make a difference, you think outside the box and challenge the norm. You have excellent management skills and always lead by example. Using your brilliant communication style, you are able to relay messages to any target audience with ease, translating technical language for those not technical minded.
