Description

The British Antarctic Survey (BAS), part of the Natural Environment Research Council, aims to undertake a world-class programme of scientific research, and to sustain for the UK an active and influential regional presence and a leadership role in Antarctic affairs.

Within Ecosystems this project will examine how the thermal limits of Antarctic ectotherms are correlated with the rate of temperature change, whether days, weeks or months. During this project the taxonomic range of species studied, and the rates at which temperature is changed, will be extended to search for underlying mechanisms which can be used as markers to predict organism response to environmental change and explain species distribution patterns. The post involves 1.5 to 2.5 years at the British Antarctic Survey’s Rothera Research Station, Antarctica and will result in a number of high quality scientific publications. The Marine Biologist will be taking over an existing project. They will be expected to play a role in planning, organisation, and implementation of this research programme as well as involvement in a diverse range of marine science projects at Rothera Research Station, particularly during the summer months.
