Summary/Purpose of Position
CI Liberia is seeking a Sustainable Development Manager to contribute to CI's vision of Healthy, Sustainable Societies (HSS) in which sustainable production practices, protection of critical natural and effective governance deliver lasting benefits for people. The Sustainable development manager will be responsible for engaging with national and local government and other key partners to develop, test, and roll out appropriate local planning tools that support integrated approaches to sustainable development. He/ she will also be responsible for developing a monitoring plan and appropriate tools for this work. The position will be based in Monrovia but will spend a significant amount of time (~50%), in the field supporting local planning processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop appropriate local planning processes to promote healthy sustainable societies in Liberia: Manager will be tasked with reviewing best practice in integrated local planning processes from various geographies and identifying and adapting plans to fit the Liberian context. This will involve liaising with CI’s global team both at HQ and in other field offices and also with local and national authorities and stakeholders in Liberia
- Oversee rollout of HSS planning in at least one geography in Liberia: Manager will be responsible for developing a workplan, setting up a planning committee with key stakeholders, organizing meetings, consultations and workshops and producing reports as needed
- Developing baselines and monitoring plan for the selected HSS geography: Manager will conduct SWOT analysis and work with CI experts to develop appropriate monitoring tools to evaluate implementation such as a metrics dashboard.
- Capacity building: Green development is a new concept globally and one that requires additional understanding. Manager will be responsible for developing appropriate tools, communications and trainings to provide additional capacity across a wide variety of stakeholders in Liberia.
Qualifications:
- A Master’s Degree in Sustainable Development or related subjects preferred
- At least five years related work experience
- Demonstrated technical experience in sustainable development and familiarity with new concepts and tools in green development
- Extensive experience engaging government, private sector, civil society, and local communities in Liberia
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to develop workplans, reports and other project management tools
