POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION:                  Manager, Philanthropic Relationships (MPR)
RESPONSIBLE TO:    Director of Marketing
LOCATION:                 Melbourne 
GRADE:                      6 
SALARY:                     $97,256 (including superannuation)
HOURS:                      Full-Time (37.5 hours per week)

The Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) is Australia’s leading national not-for-profit environmental organisation. It has been a strong and effective voice for the environment for more than 45 years.

Fundraising is a unit within the Marketing Department, which also includes Outreach and Marketing Services. Fundraising is responsible for revenue generation through regular giving, cash donations, grants and membership fees. Marketing’s focus is the acquisition, retention and development of donors and non-financial supporters to enable the organisation to deliver on our financial and environmental goals through income generation and supporter advocacy.

The Manager, Philanthropic Relationships sits within the Key Relationships team and reports directly to the Manager, Fundraising.

POSITION PURPOSE
The Manager, Philanthropic Relationships, leads the Key Relationships team which focuses on developing and managing ACF’s most significant relationships, including high value and major donors, philanthropic foundations, government bodies and corporate relationships.

Within the team, the MPR is responsible for the one-on-one management and development of ACF’s top donors, ensuring a strategic and professional approach which maximises the effectiveness of the CEO’s participation in meeting fundraising targets.

KEY COLLABORATIONS

  • The MPR works closely with and reports directly to the Manager, Fundraising.
  • The MPR manages the Key Relationships Coordinator – Melbourne; the Key Relationships Coordinator – Sydney and the Key Relationships and Grants Officer.
  • The MPR works with and has direct access to the Chief Executive Officer and Campaign Managers.
  • The MPR works closely with managers of Outreach and Marketing Services, Media and Finance departments.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, manage and coach Key Relationships staff to deliver fundraising targets ensuring the team works collaboratively with the rest of the organisation.
  • Identify, cultivate, maintain and manage ACF’s High Value Donor relationships which sit within the portfolio of the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Oversee ACF’s high value and major donor relationships, including prospects and private funding bodies to ensure they are strengthened and positioned to maximise income in the medium-term as well as achieve annual targets.
  • Develop and present compelling funding proposals to support gift requests, ensuring appropriate staff members make personal asks as required.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Liaise closely with the Chief Executive Officer to ensure productive and efficient use of the Chief Executive Officer’s contact time with High Value Donors.
  • Develop strategies and customised plans for individual donors and prospects.
  • Facilitate the development of strong one-on-one relationships between key ACF personnel and High Value Donors.
  • Secure support for ACF’s urgent campaign needs as directed by the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Ensure that regular progress reports and updates are received by donors as required.
  • Identify prospective High Value Donors through research of prospects and existing donors with a view to securing new high value gifts.
  • Develop High Value Donor cultivation strategies. This includes thinking creatively about new approaches/events and maintaining accurate and detailed records.

DUTIES

  • Ensure individual donors are responded to and thanked promptly and appropriately through personalised communications.
  • Ensure that all donor and prospect records are maintained and updated promptly and accurately on Raiser’s Edge and that record keeping is compliant with Australia’s Privacy Act.
  • Meet donors in person wherever possible using a range of opportunities including visits and ACF local events.
  • Ensure that senior staff are fully briefed before any meetings or contacts with major individual donors and prospects, including the background to the donor’s relationship with ACF, the objective of the meeting and their expected role in it.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
The performance of the Manager Philanthropic Relationships will be evaluated through an annual performance review to be conducted by the Manager, Fundraising. Performance will be assessed against generic KPIs of the Key Relationship Team and annual KPIs as negotiated with the Manager, Fundraising.
 
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, ATTRIBUTES AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Outstanding leadership skills, proven ability to coach, contribute to a strong and resilient team, and develop an innovative and results-orientated culture.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising management at an advanced level, including strategic planning for high level gifts.
  • Exceptional relationship building skills, particularly in the field of relationship fundraising.
  • Sophisticated oral and written communications skills and an ability to work collaboratively and productively with staff across an organisation.
  • Demonstrated budgeting and financial management & analysis skills.
  • Experience in managing multiple projects and meeting program targets.
  • A qualification in fundraising and/or relevant tertiary studies.
  • An understanding of and commitment to ACF’s vision, values and philosophy.
