Clean Water Action is an organization of 50,000 Minnesotans working to empower people to take action to protect America's waters, build healthy communities and to make democracy work for all of us. For 40 years Clean Water Action has succeeded in winning some of the nation's most important environmental protections through grassroots organizing, expert policy research and political advocacy focused on holding elected officials accountable to the public. Clean Water Action is looking for an enthusiastic student or recent graduate who is willing to assist with our legislative work from January to May 2013. This is an opportunity to explore and gain practical experience on various aspects of policy work through the legislative process.

Job Description

  • Monitor and track legislation impacting the environment
  • Observe House and Senate committee meetings regarding environmental policies.
  • Research policy projects as assigned.
  • Attend weekly legislative program meetings.
  • Assist with writing fact sheets and other materials for campaign use.
  • Assist in the preparation of our bi-annual legislative scorecard.
  • Support office administrative tasks, perform outreach as needed and provide general support of program work.

Interns should posses the following qualities:

  • Interest in politics, policy and the environment. Knowledge or training in these areas is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a self starter and work independently as part of a team.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a diversity of peoples and groups.

Dates & Location
When: January 7 through May 15. (specific dates negotiable)
Where: Minneapolis, MN (East Hennepin and University Ave.)
Time commitment: At least two days – or 16 hours - per week.
Compensation: Unpaid.
