Description

The Leadership Gifts & Legacies Officer in the UK works closely with the Head of Department and the Leadership Gifts US and UK Staff to support the growth of the major gifts and legacies programme to increase the number and level of gifts of £2,500 + and the number of legacy pledges. S/he will develop an annual work plan; achieve department and individual revenue goals; qualify donor prospects in specific UK regions; assist in creating and implementing a comprehensive programme that successfully promotes leadership gifts and legacies,  S/he works as a member on the worldwide Leadership Gifts department.

Accountabilities

  • Qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward UK major donor prospects capable of making donations of £2,500 and higher, and legacy prospects
  • Work closely with existing and prospective donors to upgrade individual giving, expand donor pool, and enhance donor engagement in the organisation
  • Manage a portfolio minimum of 125 major gift propsects through to closure
  • Develop prospect strategies for individual donors, promote and present IFAW funding priorities to individual prospects
  • Organise fundraising events for for high net worth individuals
  • Achieve individual and department revenue goals and number of legacy pledges, contact and visit goals
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of donor contacts and ongoing communicationwith current and potential donors
  • Keep abreast of tax law, finance and current trends in philanthropy

Requirements

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Substantial experience of conducting successful major gift and/or legacy campaigns or significant Fundraising and Communication experience in a charity
  • Proven track record of success and experience of building, developing and managing key relationshops at a high level
  • Ability and experience of interacting with high net worth individual and leading them to successful solicitation
  • Knowledge of fundraising techniques and moves management strategies and working to financial targets
  • Excellent writtent and verbal communication, networking and presentation skills, an effective negotiator with a high degree of tenacity and interpersonal sensitivity
  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic, consientious, able to prioritise, coordinate and handle multiple tasks and work independently
  • Able to work outside regular office hours and to travel extensively within the UK. Team player is essential to success.
