    EIR Global is looking for a full-time Junior Energy Consultant, based in Brussels, to support business development activities and manage technical assistance projects of the company in the energy sector. 

    EIR Global is an international consulting firm providing support to technical assistance projects in the areas of energy, climate change & environment and economic development.  EIR Global is part of the group of companies with a successful track record in implementing projects for public sector clients such as the European Commission, EBRD and the World Bank.

    The company is expanding its office in Brussels and is currently looking for an energy professional preferably with experience in EU-funded and other donor-funded projects in the area of sustainable energy.  Examples of work include: technical support in the elaboration and implementation of national energy sector policies and reforms, capacity building particularly in the policy and regulatory areas, technical support in preparation of investment projects, mobilisation of funds and facilitation of partnerships, industrial and technology cooperation as well as project demonstration.

    The Junior Energy Consultant will report to the Director and will be responsible for the following:

    Job description

    Business Development

    • Research and analysis of market trends and new markets / donors in the energy sector;
    • Communication and meetings with potential project partners with the objective of forming strategic alliances;
    • Support in the project procurement cycle (i.e. preparing expressions of interest, proposal writing, tender preparations, sourcing of external expertise, budgeting);
    • Helping to put together consortia for new energy projects including meeting with potential project partners;
    • Field missions for meetings with project partners, clients as well as for research and collection of information;
    • Maintaining the expert database;
    • Support in expanding the EIR Global office in Brussels;

    Project Management

    • Manage the implementation of the projects by foreseeing, planning, organizing and controlling the resources and tasks of the projects;
    • Manage and co-ordinate the work of the expert teams and ensure the timely delivery of project outputs;
    • Quality control of project outputs prepared by expert teams for submission to the Client and ensuring subsequent approvals;
    • Meeting with Clients to ensure the smooth implementation of the projects and with expert teams in the field;
    • Preparing project reports, including synthesis and coordinating the contributions of the expert team to the reports.  Ensuring the timely submission and approval of reports;
    • Participate, where necessary and appropriate, as an expert on projects with short-term input.
  • Requested Profile:

    We are looking for a person, to be based in Brussels, with the ability to travel on a regular basis to all parts of the world.  The ideal candidate:

    • has a strong interest in further enhancing their career in development consulting;
    • has strong communication and facilitation skills with the ability to build and enhance relations with clients and partners;
    • is a strategic thinker with an open and positive mind and is self-motivated;
    • has strong research and analytical skills;
    • has a good knowledge of EU institutions and affairs and/or international cooperation programmes (EuropeAid, UN, etc.) gained through prior work experience, as well as with International Financial Institutions (EBRD, EIB, World Bank, AFD, etc). 
    • has an eye for detail and the ability to manage the quality of work prepared by other professionals in the field;
    • is characterised by integrity and honesty, possesses a high-level of professionalism and a team-player;
    • is available to travel on a regular basis.

    Qualifications

    • University degree in an energy-related discipline, energy economics, engineering  or similar field;
    • 5 years of professional experience of which 3 years should be in implementing energy policy related projects and/or undertaking energy policy analysis work preferably in the areas of renewable energy, energy efficiency, energy access and sustainable energy;
    • Experience in writing proposals, reports, studies, papers and other documents related to the energy sector and/or energy economics;
    • Work experience with the EU rules and procedures applicable in development cooperation would be an advantage;
    • Fluency in English and French is mandatory, with strong writing skills in both languages. Knowledge of additional languages will be considered an asset.
