International Fundraising Officer

Friends of the Earth International (FoEI) is the world’s largest grassroots environmental federation with 75 autonomous member groups around the world. FoEI aims to ensure that the struggles and experiences of local communities – especially those most affected by unsustainable development – are brought to bear on policies and practices at national and international levels. We focus on four program areas: climate justice and energy, forests and biodiversity, food sovereignty, and economic justice. Our vision is of a peaceful and sustainable world based on societies living in harmony with nature.

FoEI’s decentralized and democratic structure allows all member groups to participate in decision-making. We are governed by our member groups, which are organized in regional structures and come together every two years to vote on issues facing the federation. Between meetings governance is provided by an elected Executive Committee made up of representatives from our groups. A small International Secretariat, which is responsible for fundraising for the federation, is based in Amsterdam.

FoEI and Friends of the Earth US (FoE US) have a common interest in promoting and developing the campaigns, reputation, impact and sustainability of the Friends of the Earth International to create a more just world. Realizing that the success of this work requires a strong, ongoing capacity to raise the resources and funding needed for the accomplishment of these initiatives, FoEI and FoE US have agreed to work together to build funding relationships with foundations based in the United States for the international work of FoEI, its regions, and its national member groups, in an effort to both serve donor interest and increase the overall resources of Friends of the Earth around the world.

FoE US and FoEI have agreed that the best way to take forward this effort is to hire an International Fundraising Officer that is based in the FoE US office in Washington, DC. FoEI staff will provide (remote) day-to-day supervision for the position, while a management team comprising the President of FoE US and International Coordinator of FoEI will provide overall management of the initiative and a higher level of accountability.
