Every person on Earth deserves a healthy environment and the fundamental benefits that nature provides. But our planet is experiencing an unprecedented drawdown of these resources, and it is only by protecting nature and its gifts; a stable climate, fresh water, healthy oceans and reliable food; that we can ensure a better life for everyone, everywhere.
The climate change adaptation intern will help with an online survey with policy makers in Central America and Mexico to identify which information is needed to take action on climate change adaptation for smallholder farmers in the region. Conservation International has produced a literature review on the vulnerability of smallholder farmers in Central America and Mexico and found out that very little information is available regarding this issue. A follow up presentation and discussions with colleagues, combined with the results of the literature review, identified several types of information (maps of vulnerability, costs of adaptation actions, adaptation strategies that farmers are already using, etc) as necessary for policy makers to take action on adaptation for smallholder farmers.
This information indirectly assessed through the literature review and informal discussions with colleagues now needs to be validated with policy makers from Central America and Mexico.
