In the framework of the recently approved Research Unit Kilimanjaro ecosystems under global change: Linking biodiversity, biotic interactions and biogeochemical ecosystem processes (funded by the German Research Foundation - DFG)
We are seeking excellent young scientist for the following projects:
- Development and management of central data base (Postdoc position) - Scientific integration and data synthesis (Postdoc position) - Climate dynamics of the Kilimanjaro region (Postdoc position) - Controls on ecosystem water use and carbon gain (2 PhD positions) - Soil nutrient cycles and biosphere-atmosphere exchange (2 PhD positions) - Plant diversity and performance (2 PhD positions) - Plant functional traits and ecological modelling (2 PhD positions) - Biodiversity, seed dispersal and predation by vertebrates (2 PhD positions) - Biodiversity and functional role of pollinators and soil arthropods (2 PhD positions)
Positions are for three years (65% TVÖD for PhD and 100% for Postdoc positions)
The main objectives of the research unit are (1) to relate climate and anthropogenic disturbance to both biogeochemical processes and genetic, species and interaction diversity, (2) to quantify biodiversity-ecosystem functioning relationships along altitudinal gradients and (3) to estimate resilience and adaptive potential of natural and modified ecosystems to global change.
