In the framework of the recently approved Research Unit Kilimanjaro ecosystems under global change: Linking biodiversity, biotic interactions and biogeochemical ecosystem processes funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) We are seeking excellent young scientist for the following projects: - Data base/Knowledge Management (Postdoc position) - Animal Ecology (Postdoc position) - Climatology and Remote Sensing/Modeling (Postdoc position) - Controls on ecosystem water use and carbon gain (2 PhD positions) - Soil nutrient cycles and biosphere-atmosphere exchange (2 PhD positions) - Tropical Plant Ecology (2 PhD positions) - Plant functional traits and ecological modelling (2 PhD positions) - Vertebrate Ecology (2 PhD positions) - Pollination Ecology and Soil Ecology (2 PhD positions) Positions are for three years (0.65 TVL13 for PhD and 1.0 TVL13 for Postdoc positions) The main objectives of the research unit are (1) to relate climate and anthropogenic disturbance to both biogeochemical processes and genetic, species and interaction diversity, (2) to quantify biodiversity-ecosystem functioning relationships along altitudinal gradients and (3) to estimate resilience and adaptive potential of natural and modified ecosystems to global change.
