1st - 4th July residential course
The Lamiaceae is a large family well known for its many aromatic culinary and medicinal herbs as well as garden ornamentals. It has a number of distinctive features but without close observation plants may be confused with those in other closely allied families e.g. the Scrophulariaceae s.l., Boraginaceae and Verbenaceae. The aim of this plant identification course is to enable course participants to readily distinguish these families and to gain confidence in the use of the species keys. Juniper Hall is surrounded by woodland and chalk downland. Course participants will not only be able to enjoy the natural beauty of the area but will see a wide range of plant species (including some less common ones) in these species-rich habitats. Knowledge of the group will be expanded by examining herbs and ornamental species in the garden at Juniper Hall.
